Talon Games is excited to announce that this year’s CAV-Con, in association with Reaper Miniatures, will be held in conjunction with ReaperCon 2017 at the Premiere Event Center in Lewisville, TX, October 19-22, 2017.
We are providing a special package for those wishing to enjoy the full CAV-Con experience for 2017.
While not required to participate in CAV game events or the painting contest, this ACE package will allow those attendees who select it to receive several special CAV-Con only items (see list below) as well as access to our “Meet the Designer” pizza party Friday night.
The CAV-Con Ace Pilot package option includes:
Vega IV, The United Terran Federation 10 June 2275
Each year at ReaperCon, we introduce our brand-new game board to use for events we will be running at various shows and conventions over the next 12 months. For ReaperCon 2017 we are proud to announce our most ambitious board ever, Vega IV! Set in one of the world’s lush forest valley, this new board is over thirty feet long and features three “zones,” each ten feet long, built around the capital city of Eden, the nearby planetary starport and space elevator, and the military base, Fort Joseph Smith.
Each zone contains three objective markers that player’s will compete for throughout the convention in an effort to win the overall battle for their favorite faction, the Terrans or the Rach. Players will also be competing for individual prizes, awarded to the top ten players (points-based) at the end of the battle.
This year’s event will run from:
Thursday, October 19, 2017 12:00 pm-8:00 pm (CST)
Friday, October 20, 2017 10:00 am-6:00 pm (CST)
Saturday, October 21, 2017 10:00 am-8:00 pm (CST)
Sunday, October 22, 2017 10:00 am-1:30 pm (CST)
Sunday, October 22, 2017 1:45 pm (CST)
The format of this event allows players to join at any time as their schedule permits, playing one model, two models, or an entire squad (generally 4-5 models) at a time, generating points based on the damage they inflict upon the enemy and for “spectacular” events as judged by a GM worthy of extra consideration (such as a one-shot kill). Players may play as many times as they wish throughout the event and requires no previous experience with the game system. New players will be “thrown” into the mix right away and taught the game by our friendly GM overseers! Prizes will be awarded to the top ten finishers (total points). Each player will also receive a participation award (one per player).
While the battle and the game board are inter-connected, players will only play in one zone at a time, allowing for more models and players to participate without overly slowing down the game.
There is no fee for playing and is provided free of charge to any player with a paid ReaperCon admission badge.
Entry Fee: $5 Requires paid admission to Reapercon (4-day or 1-day Saturday) Pass. Participants who complete all three-rounds will receive a special CAV themed challenge coin!
October 21, 2017
Talon Games will be hosting our first officially sanctioned CAV: Strike Operations “First Strike” Tournament. Running concurrently with this year’s ReaperCon in Lewisville, Texas, 32 players will match their wits and skill against each other in a full day of gaming and comradery.
What is “First Strike”?
First Strike is an organized play and tournament program, providing sanctioning for all “official” CAV: Strike Operations tournaments and events sponsored by Talon Games. The intent of the program is to feature a system for players to test their skills in competition against other players while maintaining an atmosphere of friendly play and good sportsmanship.
Besides providing a uniform set of “rules” in which to run a CAV: Strike Operations event, the First Strike organized play program will also allow players to track their progress as they participate in sanctioned events throughout the year, gaining “rank” that can be used to earn special prizes and awards.
The tournament will consist of three 2.5 hour rounds played on a 4’x6’ game board with randomized terrain set up by the event judges on the day of the event (October 21, 2017). While each game board will not necessarily have the same “set-up,” players should prepare for a variety of terrain types. The “First Strike” tournament system is designed to challenge players beyond the normal “kill or be killed” game format and rewards players for building a Force Group that can perform a variety of objectives throughout each battle.
